I don’t know if this will solve your problem, but I would suggest keeping your print files 8 Char or less(plus ext). Set the Print Options to print to c:nvquenewell.prn (or txt).

Also be sure that nvPRN is set to AutoStart and the min time for checking if a file is present.

Using a Blank set of books (no reports and Odds & Ends with a zero year end date) I also had not problems with setting up books with year end of feb 29, 2004.

Have you gone into your Windows Calander to see if it recognizes Feb 29, 2004?

David: Guess the question is Why non-nv users?

Currently there are not many NV users browsing the forum, which I’d like to see alot more of.

I’ve told many people and the e-mail process is not a concern.

    1. If your Books are out of Balance, use the BOOKBAL procedure to identify the accounts causing the problem. Remember BOOKBAL is part of the productivity disks.

    2. To find out what total to ONE account you can do it the hard way by using the GO procedure. Type the account, but don’t press Enter, instead use the / E, to expand and it will show which accounts total to the account.

    3. The easier way is to use the TOTAUDIT procedure (part of Prod disk #5). This will give you the Accounts and Amounts which Total To an account.

Nice to know you did such a good job and knowingly (or not) created a program to cover almost evryone’s needs. The Time Billing is my reference to the accural input as you stated.

Yes my clients use it to allocate earnings to different departments (some only two, others for part time personnel who may work in any of 40 departments) and others for Job Costing (Slashing, Oil Company, Contracting Jobs, etc).

Does it work with AP accounts rather than Payroll?

    Richasher:

For new Vendors I suggest you use the EXPSETUP procedure which is part of the basic NV. It will Import the new Accounts as well as the Notes Information. Of course you must import the accounts before the transactions.

As for the Ap & Sales Journal, I’ve found that when using an external set of books you should Delete the entries after the Import is complete. This way you can make the entries according to dates on the invoices and there will be no chance of duplication when transferring to the live set of books.

Finally I’d suggest the transfer be done Daily. This will keep the Live set of books current and eliminate the chance of loosing transactions if something unforseen happens.

Yes the /nosafety does turn off the edit safety. If your client only has to access one set of books then the nvc command works fine. Where you have to access several sets of books, or want to access different drives than the Shell provides faster access. I prefer the shell and try to teach my clients the various options available. The only item that really concerns me is the option to turn off Crash Recovery.

By the way many clients do use a modified NV1 procedure EXPALLTR to accomplish many of the above, but there are several restrictions. The main problem is that the exported entries will be duplicated if you back date entries and try to copy prior period dates.

The EXPALLTR would work if there was a method of recording the entries as they were being made, rather than search for them after.

The following are the features most of my clients would like to be able to input via multi-user:

    Accts Payable Invoices
    Add new accounts
    Bankrec
    Payroll
    Invoicing
    Purchase Orders

An excepable option would be to enter the above or most (ie: bank rec done on the live) at an external source then be exportedimported to the live set of books.

Access to reportstransactions is a big demand but could continue by copies of the books.

Cheque printing is another, but does not create a major problem if the inputing could be done else where.

Payables and purchases are coded to AR codes when they occur or as the invoice is entered. Some are coded directly to Payroll, this is up to the client.

We’ve set up a Payroll Deduction Ledger and items like Store Deductions, Loans, Car Deductions, etc, for each employee is entered and saved using BLKCOPY (Ctrl F5).

Before each payroll these deductions are copied with BLKPASTE (Ctrl F6) and the amounts changed if needed. They also use GOX (F9) to check the AR’s to ensure the deductions is correct.

Often early pay cheques are given so the deductions must be dated early.

Advances are coded directly to the Employee Payroll account and do not have to be re-entered.

Items like Group Ins is entered to the payroll at the AP ledger and only done once a month (the entry is entered for two pay periods and the company portion as an expense).

They prefer this method because the deductions are in one area and easily reviewed. In addition there is a code for each employee and they rarely miss an employee deduction.

    Thanks for you input David.

The deductions I refer to are Store Charges and other purchases from a company store and to be deducted from the employee pay. There are also loans and the repayment will vary depending on the hours worked.
