Hi, I am having problems finding the imported books. I think I need to call tomorrow. Here is the background. We purchased 6 licences, used 5, have not registered Server yet.One client has a large set of books, located on his site.He has downloaded and paid for 3 licences, name Newell.
I decided to do the import/export on my own laptop as a test.I have registered the workstation. However I also downloaded a 2nd NV2 on this laptop which I do not plan to register. So first I need to get rid of the 2nd version — How?.
In my tests I also set up my registered copy as a server and offered the Demo books, so that I could do same for client.I imagine I also need to get rid of that facility. Pls tell me how?. Later this month I plan to download a Server version to our Server.
I exported the set of books after eliminating errors and ran ATYPE/TATYPE, time 3 hrs+.Import to NV2 went fine, no probs. time 27 hours after compressing all data prior to 01 Sept 2005(year end 31 Aug).Import facility said NV2 which is correct.
I cannot find the imported set of books.

Launch NewViews2 Workstation, enter workstation password.
    I get Line, Server,Directory, User(administrator)
Press Insert and look for NV1 Import(no luck). I can see Demo books, cannot see any databases. I also looked in 2nd NV2 installation, just in case.
I also typed in path c:/NV2/NV1 Imort and c:/NV2/Newell05, nothing, cannot find.
I checked with Win Explorer and could not find anything that looks like NV1, newell or anything that looks like what I need.

    Important
I have just read the text file in NV2 called NV1_Nv2. This is dated 04 Sept and time 122 hours. This is an old import I did without compression. No sign of NV1_NV2 for 13 Sept 2005 at 27 hours.Perhaps this is my problem.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I have read the manual section a few times. Your explanation is more detailed.

IMPORT SET OF BOOKS IN SERVER ENVIROMENT.
Our client runs a 2 workstations and a server(NV2). I assume I import from within the server and then grant access to workstations.

Thank you for the help which was most useful. The rounding errors have been corrected. The client had set up an account called Jour in journals. This account Jour had over 10 years of history and seemed to be generating many of the 1500 errors. In my own test I purged this account. On a 2nd test after I moved Jour to Trial Balance.
If I compress as you suggest on import into NV2, how do I un compress. Some help in the manual.

We are a firm of accountants in Ireland. In 2002 we had to convert all NV1 data to EURO with a procedure from QWP. When I first ran the conversion procedure for NV2 I got 1500 errors. I soon discovered this was due to rounding errors conveting a 10 year period(to EUROS) on a big set of books. The only solution seemed to be; correct all the rounding errors, very time comsuming. That first conversion took 2 days. I now have that time down to 5 hours and nil errors. This is on a backup copy of the clients books. I now have to show the client how to manually fix all the rounding errors.
Any suggestions for a short cut on the rounding exercise?.( errors are all cents)

    ATYPE and TATYPE.
    I have a few questions.
What classification is a loan accounr on Balance Sheet or Trial Balance. What is share capital, prior year adjustment,Profit or Loss on sale of asset,We have Bank as normal balance “credit” which I code to bank. This gives me a warning. I am aware of the “general” category but worried that overuse will cause problems in NV2.If I follow the QWP Conversion Plan do I have to ATYPE and TATYPE everything on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th week. Is there any way I can convert the incremental entries/transactions only on weeks 2, 3 & 4.

    Import into NV2.
What is this indexing stuff, I see nothing in the manual about indexing. The manual seems short on what you get after import into NV2.
The conversion now down to 5 hours. Ran the import into NV2 last night, still running after 12 hours. Am I doing something silly, no errors reported. All this work on a backup copy of the clients books. Now I have to show client how to follow the QWP Conversion Plan. He will go craxy having 5 hours conversion and perhaps 2 days import to NV2 and I still do not know what I will get once import is complete.I am zipping stuff on the import, leaving 4 years with all details.

    Hi,
I have downloaded the file nvPRNqDemo, I followed all the instructions including the detail notes. I have also read most of the messages re printing from NV. Sadly no success.Perhaps you can help.
I try to print a report from NV using the usual commands. Some success here as the procedure seems to be printing but nothing appears on either printer(Printers are connected to the network not hanging from a workstation) I have tried the suggestions, close & go in again, no success.
I looked at the file name in Print Options which says: C:nvquenewell~2.PRN. I think thats the problem because when I check the C drive, directory NV there is nothing called newell~2.PRN.
All other files mentioned in the detail notes are present.
    Some background
The NV application files are on each workstation ie drive C:. The data files for NewViews sit on the Server in a Directory called s:TempNewvie~1*.*
I am trying to print documents from s:TempNewvie~1Newell~1.
I am stuck, we have 5-6 machines that could use this procedure, I suppose a licence fee will apply.

We use Win 2000 & Win XP on a NT network. I have tried using the net use commands with no success. The command DIR > lpt1 works fine and prints the directory listing. When we try to print from NV we get the message ” cannot write to the file specified in print options”. Print Options specifies LPT1.
Please can you tell me the DOS command to disconnect LPT1 to \ntserverhplaserj. I want to start again & try these commands. When I use the net use command I get the message “LPT1 already in use”. The strange thing is my own machine is on the same network with Win 2000P and no problem printing from NV. I would appreciate some help.
