DOS Bulletin - 2010-1

As promised, here is the first edition of the DOS Bulletin, delivered straight to your inbox. To give everyone a chance to register for this service, the first few Bulletins will be sent to all NV1 (NewViews for DOS) users. After that time, Bulletins will only be sent to those who register to receive it. Buying a New Computer That Can Run NewViews for DOS

When faced with purchasing a new computer that will be able to run NV1, you must consider two very important items - the operating system and the printing port.

• Only 32 bit versions of Microsoft Windows (and not 64 bit) can run NV1 directly.
• The computer must have a parallel port to connect to your existing DOS printer.

Notice Regarding Payroll Diskettes

Q.W. Page will continue to provide updates for NV1 Payroll for the foreseeable future. However, 2011 may be the last year that Payroll Updates are shipped on disks for the following reasons:

• New computers do not include floppy drives.
• Time is of the essence with annual payroll updates and delivery of software via download is now the norm. Updates can be downloaded using any computer (even if it does not have NV1 installed), then copied to a disk, CD, or USB flash drive.

Payroll and Procedure Library 12

Procedure Library 12 was released in February 1999 to allow more control over procedure date formatting and to overcome some deficiencies in Version 10b. Procedure Library 12 must be installed in order to run the current NV1 Payroll.

To see if you have Library 12 installed, open the books and run the Support procedure / Go RunProc "SUPPORT", then press [F5] to view for Library Details . If your Library is version 10b or earlier, click here to order Library 12.

Canadian Payroll Updates

Payroll updates for January 2011 will be available to all currently enrolled Payroll Plan users here by mid December 2010. After downloading your Payroll file, please follow the instructions in the section "Installing Payroll", which can be found on the same website page.

The draft T4127 was released on November 22, 2010. Payroll for all provinces and territories in Canada have been updated with this information.

Important! Online Filing is Now Mandatory

In Canada, the CRA now requires more than 50 T4 information slips to be filed electronically. See www.cra-arc.gc.ca for more details. You may incur a penalty if you submit more than 50 slips by mail.

In Quebec, more than 50 RL information slips they must be filed electronically. See page 14 at www.revenu.gouv.qc.ca for more details.

NV1 will not be updated for electronic XML filing. NewViews for Windows has been filing XML T4 slips since 2008.

USA Payroll Updates

At this time, Publication 15 (Circular E) has not yet been released for 2011. The release of new tax rates may be delayed this year since several tax reduction measures may not be extended for 2011.

Payroll updates for January 2011 will be available to all currently enrolled Payroll Plan users here as soon as possible. After downloading your Payroll file, please follow the instructions in the section "Installing Payroll", which can be found on the same website page.
