Each set of books listed in the workstation login table has an autoopen field that can be set to manual or automatic.
When autoopen is manual, the books are opened manually by changing the state field to open.
When autoopen is automatic, the books are opened automatically when the workstation is run. If there are books that you work on routinely, you may want to set them to open automatically.
The following points should be noted:
Passwords may still be required.
The workstation remembers passwords and this is one reason books can be opened automatically. However, the first time a particular user open a set of books, or if that user's password has been changed, they will be prompted to enter a password. This is regardless of whether the books are set to open manually or automatically.
Autoopen is reset to manual if the autoopen fails.
When running a NewViews workstation, an attempt to open a set of books automatically may fail. If this happens, the autoopen field is reset to manual and the state remains closed. The autoopen field will have to be changed back to automatic.
Autoopen can fail for a number of reasons, e.g. the books could have been renamed, deleted, moved to another folder, or they could be located on a server that is not currently running.
Remote sets of books can be opened automatically.
Books can be opened automatically whether they are local (i.e. opened on a local drive with single-user access) or remote (i.e. opened on a server with multi-user access).
