The installation has a minimal effect on your system:
When the install program is run, the nv2.exe program is installed in the destination folder you choose.
The folder nv2.dat is created as a sub-folder of the installation folder. (nv2.dat contains printing templates and scripts for use with NV2).
The NVEXPORT library files (NVEXPORT.NPL, NVEXPORT.PRC and NVEXPORT.MSG) are copied to the destination folder. This is the procedure library used to export NV1 books for conversion to NV2.
A NewViews 2 program group is added to your Windows Start menu.
No changes are made to the Windows registry.
No other files (such as DLLs) on your system are affected.
NV2 does not require, or conflict with prior versions of NewViews in any way. You may install NV2 in the same folder as the DOS version - no files are overwritten, and the DOS version will continue to operate normally.
NV2 requires a "contemporary" computer to give satisfactory performance. The R&D team at Q.W.Page develop NV2 on Pentium IV's running at 2.8 GHz with 1 GB of RAM. For suitable performance, users will likely require a similar system. Please see System Requirements on the NewViews website for more details.
When upgrading to a new computer you may be faced with a new operating system. The majority of new computers in 2017 are shipped with Windows 10 64 bit. The Windows type is often not advertised clearly. 32-bit versions can be advertised as 32-bit or x86. 64-bit versions can be advertised as 64-bit or x64.
The shift from 32 bit to 64 bit platforms and operating systems does not affect NewViews 2. NewViews 2 is designed to run on both 32 and 64 bit platforms and operating systems. However if you are transferring NV1 and legacy DOS data to a 64 bit platform you may encounter trouble with printing NV1 from the virtual environment. The table below shows the computer platform where NewViews can be installed and run.

DOSBox emulates an Intel x86PC, the emphasis is on getting DOS programs to run smoothly, printer support is still in early development.
