Exporting NV1 Books

The NVEXPORT procedure exports all the data from an NV1 set of books, in a format suitable for importing into a new set of NV2 books.

NVEXPORT operates very much like the "Check Books" program in the NV1 Shell:

IMPORTANT!

To complete the export from NV1 in the shortest possible time, NewViews should be running in full screen mode. This is because Windows will give more CPU time to a DOS application running in full screen mode than if it was running in a window.

The command to set a DOS window to full screen is <Alt+Enter> (i.e. while holding down the <Alt> key press the <Enter> key.) The same command will restore the window back to its original size.

Once the NVEXPORT procedure is running, and you have switched to full screen, place a small light object (like a stapler) on the <Ctrl> key of the keyboard. By keeping the key pressed, Windows will give nearly 100% of the CPU resources to NewViews.

Without the <Ctrl> key depressed, the NVEXPORT procedure could run for days or even weeks.

SECURITY ALERT!

NVEXPORT will create a text representation of your NV1 books in a file named NV1_NV2. Anyone with access to this file can open it with a word processor and examine the contents of your books. This file should be archived in a secure location and deleted to ensure unauthorized access never occurs.

Preparation

  1. From the NewViews shell issue the Check Books command.

Before running NVEXPORT, we strongly advise you to run the NV1 Check Books program. If any errors are detected, they must be corrected using the Reorganize Books program.

  2. Turn Edit Reconcile On.

For NVEXPORT to operate correctly, the NV1 Edit Reconcile option must be set to On.

  3. Remove the Auditor Edit Date.

NOTE: NVEXPORT does not change anything in your NV1 books. Setting Edit Reconcile to On and removing the Auditor Edit Date is only required for the NVEXPORT to properly detect purged transactions.
