To open a set of books with single-user access, leave the server field empty. To open a set of books with multi-user access you have to identify the server by entering the server name (or ip address) in the server field. That is the only significant difference between opening a set of books with single-user and multi-user access.
After specifying the server, you can press <F3> on the file field to select a set of books, as identified by the database file name. This time, instead of selecting from a file explorer, you will select from the list of books offered by the server.
So, from a user's point of view, there is little difference between single-user and multi-user access. The primary concern is what to enter in the server field. We describe how to set up a multi-user server in another section. In that section we also cover how to identify the server. As a user, you will simply ask the server administrator for the name of the server.
See Remote Access for information on how workstations access an external/remote database.
