Custom scripts can further enhance the abilities of mail merge by gathering data from different areas of NewViews.
In the example below, the mail merge is being run on a block of four sales accounts for the third quarter. The script, Merge_Cross_Account is finding out who bought the product and providing Mail Merge with the customer's address.
Note the changes to the field names. All of the field names have the word "Customer_" in front of them. This is because the mail merge needs to know from where it will be getting the address.
A sample script is provided with NewViews. The script is located in c:/nv/nv2.exe/object/newviews/account (or the folder you installed NV2 in, if you didn't use the default setup).
Merge_Cross_Account is designed to run on a block of sales accounts from a date range column and provides Mail Merge with the customer information. Merge_Cross_Account can also be run from a block of purchase or expense accounts and gets data from the vendor.
