In NewViews you can define several units of measure for each item in inventory. To maintain accuracy but allow for flexibility in commerce, a common set of units of measure should be used.
The base unit of measure is the basis for inventory management and evaluation. Alternative units of measure, such as the issue unit, order unit or unit of measure, are defined to identify packages or containers for smaller units of measure such as cases, cartons, boxes, trays, barrels or skids.

In North America we generally use three systems of measurement; metric, imperial and US. Also, within each system, standard conversions simplify the purchase and sale of goods. For example goods may be purchased by the barrel, then sold by the gallon, ounce or liter. In NewViews if you purchase or sell your goods in various units of measurement you should set up the Units of Measure (UOM) table.
The Units of Measure table is not limited to translating kilos to grams or kilos to imperial pounds. Many standards can be set.
To use Units of Measure, a UOM table must be set up as part of your inventory. Units of Measure (UOM) tables can be set:
To view/edit the Units of Measure for Inventory accounts:
Click NewViews/Account/Inventory.
Use the window tab Units of Measure or window list button at the left of the title bar that reads ACCOUNT/Inventory to select the Units of Measure window.
Add rows to the table as per the screen shot below.
