Converting from NewViews 1 for DOS to NewViews 2 (Windows)

If you have books in NewViews 1.41b format, no matter how old, they can be Converted to NewViews 2 for Windows. The conversion process from NV1 (the DOS version of NewViews) to NV2 (the Windows version of NewViews) creates a new set of books in NV2 and transfers a copy of the data contained in the DOS books to the NV2 format. Note that you still retain your original NV1 set of books, which can be archived (or accessed if required).

NV2 does not conflict with prior versions of NewViews in any way. You should install NV2 in the same directory as the DOS version. No files are overwritten, and the DOS version will continue to operate normally if you need to run it for any reason.

There is no limit on the historic data that can be stored by NewViews. When converting from NV1, all historic data can - and in most cases should - be transferred. However, if your organization has changed substantially over the years, you may wish to restrict the number of years or months to import.

You may also choose to only import the report and account structure from NV1 and leave the transactions behind.

For complete instructions on converting a set of books from NV1 to NV2, see Appendix C.
