How to Connect to a Total account

How to Connect to a Total account

There are three ways to totalto (connect, join, link, sum, total, roll up, wire up) a group of accounts to a report.

No single method is superior, the third method shown is best applied to, but not limited to the AP and AR account folders. An example is the best way to explain the three methods. Following are three groups of screen shots. Presented here are four sample customer accounts totaled to the Trial Balance.

Connect a Total account to another Total account

Presented first is the classic method. A report has a group of accounts totaled to a Total account TOT-AR. In turn account Total account TOT-AR is totaled to Total account 1200 located on the Trial Balance. The second screen shot displays the /NEWVIEWS/ACCOUNTS/AR folder where the bottom row has no Totalto fields filled in.

Connect a class account to a total account

This is a more advanced method. There is no Accounts Receivable "report" involved. The /NEWVIEWS/ACCOUNTS/AR folder has the bottom row Totaled to Total account 1200 located on the Trial Balance. The second screen shot displays the Trial Balance row 5 which is Total account 1200.

Place the class account on the report

This is the most advanced and direct method. There are no standard Total accounts involved. Instead we take full advantage of Automatic Totaling Not only is the /NEWVIEWS/ACCOUNTS/AR folder bottom row Totaled, it is also place directly on the Trial Balance by filling in the report field TB. The last screen shot shows the Total accounts on /NEWVIEWS/ACCOUNTS/AR folder bottom row are now set to TB-PROOF and BS-AR
