Google and Microsoft have updated their DMARC policies in June of 2016. DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) is a regulation for email authentication that provides “proof” that an email is actually being sent from the domain name that claims to be sending it.

The authentication service helps prevent phishing and spoofing attacks by cybercriminals, but DMARC can also hinder the email marketing efforts of companies that do not comply with DMARC regulation. By not complying with DMARC, marketers are putting their email deliverability rates at risk because any message that is deemed unsafe will go to spam.

If your Email Setup in NewViews is using a gmail account as the outgoing mail server, you may be experiencing some problems. Some sample errors caused by this Google change are:

i.) “Unable to email ssl port720 error.”

ii.) “Could not send an SMTP email.”

The solution at this point is to use a non gmail/microsoft outgoing mail server. Please contact your IT department or your ISP and request the name and settings of your organizations outgoing mail server.

Important news for NewViews Payroll users in Canada: We have been advised that the publication of Canadian payroll formulas and tax rates for 2016 (CRA Guide T4127) will be delayed, likely until mid-December 2015, due to the change in government.

Usually,  we receive this information around November 15, at which time it takes us approximately 1 month to:

  • review the information provided in CRA Guide T4127
  • review and update NewViews Payroll codes and tax tables for the upcoming year
  • test the updated Payroll codes and tax tables
  • release either a service pack or a new version of NewViews that includes updated Payroll codes and tax tables

This delay means we may not have enough time to release a new service pack or new version of NewViews in mid-December, as we would normally.  Please continue to check our website during the next few weeks for the most current status of Canadian Payroll for 2016.

The Auto Reconcile tool has been updated to handle download files from more banks.

If you tried to use the Auto Reconcile tool that was released earlier this year and it was not compatible with download files provided by your bank,
please update to the latest version. The updated script can be downloaded by clicking here.

After downloading the new Auto Reconcile script, copy it to your NewViews script folder. The NewViews script folder is a sub-folder in the NewViews installation directory which is typically named c:\nv\nv2.dat\scripts, c:\nv2\nv2.dat\scripts or c:\nv2_nph\nv2.dat\scripts. Your script folder normally contains about 17 script files.

The usual way to invoke the Auto Reconcile tool is using the command Tools > Auto-reconcile. To run the new version instead, use the command Tools > Script Evaluate > auto_reconcile_ofx_228_3.qw_script.

The updated version of Auto Reconcile will be included in next NewViews release.
