Boomerang Transactions could be the result of posting twice to the same account
From NewViews help
“the single resulting journal row, posting twice to the same account, is treated as a boomerang. The only difference for a boomerang is that the resulting postings do not appear on account debit/credit views or contribute to account debit/credit histories. The only material consequence of this is that the import reported bogus history amount errors when checking the imported account histories. The importer now detects and compensates for these rare transactions.”
If you switch from balance forward to open item, a boomerang transaction is suggested as in the New Views help item following
“To switch from open item to balance forward, print the open ledger view as the final open item statement. Continue by using the balance forward method. To switch from balance forward to open item, print the final balance forward statement, close all items, and add a boomerang transaction with an amount equal to the balance of the account. The boomerang transaction creates two items on the same account, one with a positive amount, and one with a negative amount. Close the negative item. The open ledger view then contains one item with an amount equal to the total due. Continue by using the open item method.”
There are other instances of “boomerang transactions”. If you type “boomerang transactions” in Newviews help, you can display them to see if they apply.
ALukachkoParticipantThe answer is yes.
From the NewViews help item – Balance Forward versus Open Item
“In NewViews, any account can be managed using either the balance forward or open item method and these methods are not mutually exclusive. You can use the balance forward method for some customers and the open item method for others and you can switch from one method to the other at any time. However, if you employ both methods you should separate balance forward from open item accounts on the same or different reports to easily identify the method used for any customer, to conveniently produce aged reports that include only open item customers, and to produce statements of the correct type automatically using procedures.”
ALukachkoParticipantToday is the last day of August. Any further updates on this?
ALukachkoParticipantToday is Aug 31, 2007. Will 2.09 be release today?
ALukachkoParticipantI’m using a wireless connection from my laptop to a Network Attached Storage box on my network. Access to the books is as fast as the non wireless connection from the desktop.
Sometimes the link to the books on the NAS is cut off but this probably has more to do with the persistence of the link than it does with NV2.
ALukachkoParticipantI talked to a fellow at QW Page tech support and he suggested that I sort on line number. This now showed the inserted new blank accounts – yes I tried to add a number of them. I was able to add the necessary accounts and then deleted the blank accounts not needed.
Thanks for your help tech support person. I’m sorry I didn’t remember your name.
ALukachkoParticipantHello,
I’ve tried both as a short cut on the desktop C:nv141nv.exe and also I’ve opened the C:nv141 folder and run nv.exe directly. I also created an MS-DOS shortcut in the folder and tried running that as well. In all 3 cases, I get the same error I described earlier.
The diskettes (3.5″ floppies) have Version 1.41 printed. I also have diskettes (3.5″ floppies) that have Version 1.40. In fact when I installed the 1.40 diskettes, it ran properly in Windows 98, 2000 and XP Pro. As well, they show version 1.40c when you enter NewViews. I’ve been using this version for years without a problem.
What I did was copy all files (including the 1.40c exe’s, ovl’s and the various data files in the company folder) from the original C:nv folder to a new folder called C:NV141. I then installed version 1.41 into and top of the files in the C:nv141 folder.
I do not have version 1.41a or 1.41b and the 1.41b procedure library 12. I understand I have to have the 1.41a or 1.41b version to upgrade to NV2.
The error only occurrs when I try to run as described above. I ha no problems installing 1.41.
Thanks for your help

When I try to load NV 1.41, the screen goes black, there is a beep and then a window pops up titled ” 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem”. It has a message “NV The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instrauction. CS:2035 IP:370a OP:0f 25 4a 3e 02 Choose ‘Close’ to terminate the application..
If I ignore or close, the window disappears
