FSaldanaParticipant
I agree.
NV1, in 1986 was full of promise and great potential. It was a breath of fresh air, delivering everything that was promised and more.
It then got caught up in the Windows revolution and it took QWP at least 10 years (probably 12 or more) to come out with the long-promised NV2.
By then NewViews had been relegated (it seems to me) to a relatively small, cliquish Canadian market, with NV1’s promise and good will squandered.
From the posts I have seen over the last two or so years, NV2 indeed does seem overly complex, riddled with “issues” and unattractive to many.
I wonder if the market for NV2 is any larger than a subset of loyal NV1 users?
FSaldanaParticipantThanks, WGray. You express exactly my experience and sentiment. I too bought NV1 in 1987, January based entirely on the PC Magazine Award and I found it great.
The posts I saw re: conversion were just daunting and it seemed to have many shortcomings (which I can not afford).
I lament as well what today are apparent limitations (though they were not in 1987) of NV1, but I learned to live with them.
I will stick to NV1, and if I ever decide to go to a “modern” system, it is not likely to be NV2.
Personally, it was very disappointing to see QWP struggle for countless years with their windows version, only to come out with a half-baked program; especially given the incomparable usability and value of NV1.
FSaldanaParticipantI have had this problem as well for a long time (on windows 98) using an HP Laser Printer.
I don’t know if my problem is in any way related to yours, but in my case:
1) If I am prining more than one statement (for example) the printin kicks out immedately; or
2) If I issue the Print command and then immedately exit NV1, the printing begins immedately. In other words, the delay only is encountered when I am trying to print out exactly 1 item.
Do you know if your problem responds in the same manner?
In may case it is just a minor annoyance and inconvenience.

FSaldanaParticipantThere are virtually no posts at all on the NV1 site and almost none on the NV2 site recently.
What’s going on?
With NV2’s release there shoudl be a lot of traffic on both sites.
The NV2 site should be open, at least read-only, to NV1 users.
Something is wrong with this picture.
FSaldanaParticipantMy guess would be that most will be cautious and will wait for more reviews to decide whether to jump in. I know I will be waiting to see comments and reviews.
FSaldanaParticipantI recall that for a year or two, there was prominantly turmpeted on the QWP Home Page the fact that purchasers of NV1 DOS, would be upgraded free to NV2 when it was released.
I notice now, that there is no longer any mention of that NV2 upgrade.
I wonder what significance this may have with relation to what we are all wondering about???
FSaldanaParticipantI guess it’s just kind of scary to think that I’m way down here in Texas using a software program on which my whole business’ life is dependent (I don’t even want to think about what I would do if I had a problem with the software) and that if I had a big problem there would be no one to call about it.
FSaldanaParticipantAll of this is very interesting. NV1 users are, as a rule, very confortable with NV1, notwithstanding that it is archaic, by today’s standards. It is so well suited to what I do (general ledger & billing for law practice) that after 17 years of using it, I am not too motivated at all to change; even to NV2.
The real dilemma that I see for us die hards, is that QWP has probably bet the bank on NV2 (there can’t possibly bee too many buyers out there for a DOS accounting program) adn if NV2 never is released, or if it is, but flops for some reason, for how long can QWP hang around to suppoort us DOS users?
Is this a realistic concern? I would like to hear some opinions.
FSaldanaParticipantI frankly am tired of waiting. More importantly, having waited for this program for 8 years, my confidence in what the product actually do, and the safety of NV2 has been severely undermined. It is really hard to understand how any windows product could be in development for such a long period of time, during which Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, and now Windows XP have come and gone. Maybe after Longhorn!
NV! is a wonderful product that I have used exclusively for 17+ years without a serious problem and without a single failure. That inspires confidence in THAT product – but is really archaic.
