SGalloParticipant
I have used NV1 for decades and forgot the answer to each. So, disregard the question as written. The vDos DOS emulator has worked great, but a new emulator, DosBos-X, has taken its place. It woks to the point of producing the NV control panel, but I can’t seem to find the books. I see the directory for each but they will not open. What is the secret to finding them?
SGalloParticipantI apologize for adding something here about a question I asked in October 2020, but at the time I was real busy and since the reports were for internal use, I did nothing. Now I have time, and the same error still exists.
It is not about the double line. That works in “REPORT.” It’s the single line which “c4” is supposed to create, but doesn’t. I’ve changed the setup line with several printer configurations, but no single line. The REPORT I can print (I use printfil) that is nice and clean, but without the single lines is configured this way.
Printer Options: PRCPRN
REPORT Printer: HP10PNeed more suggestions.
SGalloParticipantOn thing else. An Italian company sells “Printfil” for about $50(I use it) and it prints NV without a hitch. In NV Print Options just set a spot to place the print file, and Printfil picks it up to print.once you tell Printfil where it is (once).
SGalloParticipantStill going like Jessie on Win 10 64 bit. (4/2020) It’s a shame NewViews doesn’t encapsulate the 3 pieces into a self-standing package for sale now.
SGalloParticipantNew report I have an installation of NV1 working completely off a USB Stick. No workarounds. Click on the desktop icon and away you go. A breakthrough. What has happened is that the new DOS version has broken away from games. The new variation is vdos.exe. And even a later vdosplus.exe. I’m using the vdos.exe because it does everything for my NV. And on Win 10, 64bit.
Anyone else, so we can exchange info.SGalloParticipantFigured it out. Something overlooked. A bad nv.exe file. So, now we are moving along to the next propblem, but getting better. Have to figure out how to get the cursor to show.
Later. The cursor is working because it moves the page up and down. Is there some way to change the cursor code in the Odds & Ends outside of it?
Later again. maybe the cursor is okay, perhaps the color of the cursor is what needs changing.
Anyone with ideas?
Much later: Looks like I will have to bring my notebook with me to use NV Dosbox because it works there but not on the thumb.
That doesn’t work because when I turn off my fkeys on Win8 they don’t work in NV. I think the best thing is to get Win 8 32 bits and forget Dosbox.
SGalloParticipantthat’s what I had. What that does is bring up the NV shell. When I click on Books, an error comes up and says It can’t find nvc.exe. Thta’s strange in one way because my Dosbox autoexec file final line is f:dosprogsnvnv.exe
SGalloParticipantPrinting has always been handled by “prnt.” It’s what I use on another computer running Win7. Have used it for 5-6 years. If you need it, email me at mail@gfusa.net and I’ll send it. It’s freeware. I couln’t find the link using Goggle.

SGalloParticipantGot NV1 running.DOSBox 7.4 has a configuration file. With a bit of tinkering, it loads and runs. I’m going to run the books a bit longer as a test to see if any gliches appear, but, so far, none.
SGalloParticipantGetting there. Before I start, please don’t tell me to get NV2. I have it and don’t like it. My NV1 will now run with DosBox in Win8 64bit. My problem is that the curser shows on the home page and menus but does not show in the books.
Cam anyone guide me to an answer?
SGalloParticipantFound out how to address it, but unfortunately, it’s back to the 64 bit error. In other words, Win 8 runs DOS easily, but not 32bit. This may be a novice question, but is there software that converts 32 bit programs to 64bit?
SGalloParticipantI played around with Win8 more and I can get a Dos window to appear. Win8, and I don’t know why this is this way, but the program folder is two folders; one is Programs and one is Programs (x86) which seems to handle the “older” stuff. I put NV1 in the x86 folder but I can’t figure out how to address it. More later.
SGalloParticipantI spent an hour yesterday in two chat sessions about this with Microsoft and the bottom line was, “Not our problem. Get with NewViews.” My new computer is 64 bit. All I wanted to know was how to get NewViews to work, like can I divide my hard drive into two partitions and place MS XP in it? Any help. Got nothing. What gets me is that accounting is “black and white.” Dos is “black and white.” We DOS NV1 users, and I have been with NV since they started, just want to stay with “black and white.” Why doesn’t some NV authorized agent update NV1 under license and sell it? Dosen’t look like Q.W. page is interested.
SGalloParticipantThanks. Sorry for the delay. Converted to Windows 7 and it didn’t go well. I had Vista Ultimate and Win 7 didn’t like it.
I’ll give your suggestion a try and let you know.
SGalloParticipantI apologize for overlooking your answer. Here is the setup. Each “state” is a report. Then, within each state are the donor accounts in the state in total only posting..
Where I’m trying now is to simply create a read only, atuorun CD of the books so that our leaders across the country can decide what they want to review.I just entered a new question on the forum today.
Again, I apologize for the overlook. I don’t like having someone respond for nothing. Not my nature.
