AGiglioParticipant
You guys are tough. I’ve used NV1 for 20 years and was delighted. NV2 needs improvements but the product is a significant improvement over NV1 for multiuser alone.
I’ve been using NV2 for over 1 1/2 years and have been happy with the improved productivity. I have a mulituser client, 7 users, who is also delighted.
Its integration with Excel is also a big step forward. I know improvements will keep coming.
If anyone has a product better than NV2, let me know.

AGiglioParticipantMartin,
Is there security currently in the system that will allow an individual to view Accounts Payable only and prevent them from making any changes to the date, account numbers, account descriptions, etc. ?
Thanks,
ArtAGiglioParticipantMartin,
How do I prevent changes to entries from individuals entering data into the books. I’ll have a bookkeeper entering invoices daily. I’ll have a comptroller making entries to the books.
I want to insure that they are not changing the data without authorization. This is major for a company with many users. I cannot restrict date range within the month because this would slow data entry.
After the month is “closed”, I can and will close the prior periods using the “date restrictions” in the security. But during the month how do we protect the data?
Thanks,
Art.AGiglioParticipantNot in Woodstock but I am in Hartsdale, Westchester NY. Like you I am a long time user.
Feel free to post and I will answer if I can.

AGiglioParticipantWill NV2 run faster on the 64 bit if one has up to date hardware?
Art.
AGiglioParticipantOn the top window, report, move your cursor from the amount fielt to the description field and try again. It should work.
Art.
AGiglioParticipantMartin, I tried it today. It would be more useful if those of us with two monitors could drag the second database to the second monitor.
Art.
AGiglioParticipantTo run the script, go to you balance sheet or income statement report. If you look closely, you’ll notice there are two dark blue rows at the top of the report. Position your cursor on the top row and right click. The script should run from there.
Once the script has run, click on the dropdown and a new report will appear “trial balance”. You’ll notice that this is not quite what you need because it also contains the “total” accounts.
QW wants the user to create a separate report which duplicates the accounts to appear on the trial balance with the appropriate “total-to’s” from the posting account. That’s right. You need to double the size of your chart of accounts. Every time you add an account to a report, you need to add it to the trial balance. I’m sure there are the traditional individuals the have the discipline to add accounts to the trial balance first then enter them in the report as appropriate. I’ve been using NV for over 15 years and have not had a “trial balance” other than the financials.
I spoke with Martin this week and suggested that the script be modified to not include the “total accounts” from within the current report on the trial balance report. They will need to include accoutns such as AR and AP which are likely total accoutnts that are from outside this report. I believe this will allow the user to print two or more reports that will be your “trial balance”. If you print it to Excel, you can rearrange it in Excel to fit into one report.
Perhaps the script can be further modified to ask which reports to include to produce one trial balance report. Here’s hoping they can figure a way to accommodate this method of maintaining the books.

AGiglioParticipantPlease address those of us that have 2 or more monitors. It would be nice to drag winows to the other monitor.
Art.
AGiglioParticipantI ran the script and get the error that the database must be closed.
Art.
AGiglioParticipantMartin,
Your suggestion assumes you have an AR “reoprt”.
I deleted my AR report and only use the Account to work with
AR.Will we be able to setup a subreport under AR or AP and move the accounts there?
Art.
AGiglioParticipantFigured it out. Need to change the respect balance to “no” to make it periodic not perpetual.
Another item: Have you found a way to prevent the changing of account names in AP and AR? This is dangerous if we cannot lock it.
Thanks Randy.
Art.
AGiglioParticipantThanks Randy. I on board. I’m a big fan. I discoverd you suggestion yesterday with the help of technical.
I think there is a problem. The amounts seem not to respect a date range. For example, debits are from inception to date.
What have you found?
Art.
AGiglioParticipantOnce you’ve launched “workstation” on your desktop:
Position your cursor on the “directory” column and press F3. Then navigate your way to the correct directory. Hit enter then position your cursor on the “state” column and again press F3. Click on “open” and you’re off to the races.
Hope this answers your question.
Art.
AGiglioParticipantFollowup:
I ran my own test. On the demo books the reconcile procedure works as advertised in the manual.
Then I typed “void” in the reconcile column. F3 produced “void” again and again. Nothing I did could change it.
My conclusion, if anybody cares, is that typing alpha in the reconcile column will cause the alpha to repeat using the F3 key.
This looks like a bug???
