Double-click on the date column header or press F11 and in the Title field (line 3) type %_begin to use the Begin Date from line 10 and/or %_end to use the End Date from line 11. You can also use n to start a new line. I.e.: Type the following in the title (line 3) without the quotes “For the period from %_beginnto %_end”. You can experiment with this until you get the title exactly as you want it and no more strange looking header when you print it!

    Hi,

The default behaviour for F11 or double-clicking on a column header has changed as you have discovered. To get the old behaviour you must now position yourself on a cell in any column and then press the Ctrl key and F11 together (Ctrl+F11). This brings up the window listing all columns and allows you to create new “views” as you could before. You cannot use the mouse to perform this task.

I have seen the same thing and it turns out that it is my keyboard. I have an F Lock key that changes the behavior of the F Keys. If you have one, press the F Lock key once and then try F3.

As well after pressing F11 you could report the debits or credits by changing the index value in line 7. Click on the value beside Index on line 7 and the press F3. Click the plus symbol beside date on the menu that pops up and then double-click on debit or credit. To get back to the “ledger” view – repeat the above steps and double-click on date.

The basics for setting dates on a report are described in the online manual at

Yes NV1 works in Windows 7 – 32 bit version.

I am using the Release Candidate version of Windows 7 – 32 bit and NV1 works just like it did in Windows Vista – 32 bit. The only drawback in both of these versions of Windows is that a DOS window cannot be made to go full screen.

The 64 bit versions of Windows 7 or Vista will not run NV1. But there is a piece of software called DOS Box that according to their site will run on Windows 64 bit and allow DOS software to run inside its emulator. I have downloaded it but have not had time to test it.

    Please do not do this.

It is very useful when you want to see what the debit vs credit view is in an account as well as in other areas.

If you want the menu to disappear use the menu at the top.

    Hi Selina,

I work with a number of clients in Vancouver, but I am from Alberta.

My colleague, Greg and I are NewViews NV2 consultants based in Calgary and support customers globally.

I will be in Vancouver from Dec 1 through Dec 12 working with some NewViews clients.

I would be happy to discuss your requirements via email or telephone and then determine if a meeting during those 2 weeks would be beneficial.

    My email address is randy@thesoftwaremanager.com

    Thanks and

    Hi,

Here is a link to my website that lists what we have found to work for NV2.

    http://nv2accounting.com/nv2_requirements.aspx

Please be aware that the hard drive specs and network card are the 2 most important requirements. The hard drive specs we have listed are critical – fast hard drive not big hard drive and RAID. As you will see the network card we recommend is a gigabit card which also means that the rest of your network must match ie: CAT6 wiring and gigabit switch. Also note that you do not need to run Windows Server software on the computer that will function as the NV2 server.

This also leads into your requirement for online customers. Highspeed internet does not come close to the speed of a gigabit network. The best way I can describe NV2 is that it is a distributed computing model, this means that the workstations and server need to be equally powerful along with a high quality network.

If your online customers are mostly viewing and/or reporting high speed internet will be adequate. But if your online customers are trying to process payroll or some other database intensive process they will be unhappy with the speed. Please remember that your online customers must have a NV2 license on their workstation to be able to access and use a set of books from your server. To compensate for the speed issue you may be able to serve online customers by implementing a terminal/citrix server model but you would need to test it thoroughly before committing to it.

We have found our customers to be happy with the performance of NV2 when they carefully follow these specs. I trust that you will find this information helpful.

    Thanks and

I have to agree with Art!

    You guys are TOUGH!

I have used NV1 since 1985 and NV2 starting 2 months after it was released. Yes there is a learning curve but should we expect less!

Yes conversions take some time but when they are completed you have daily resolution of data. I personally couldn’t ask for more – unless it was per second resolution of data ;-) (Oh yes – there is actually per second resolution of data – WOW) I have a client with a custom analysis report that shows only transactions made between 10 pm and 12 am!

And the multi-user capabilities are amazing – I am able to help clients around the country from the comfort of my office while I am viewing their books as they give me permission.

As far as importing – I am importing data from a point of sale system into NV2. It is not a documented feature but it is there – if you are willing to put some time and effort in.

Bottom line for me – NV2 is a grown up version of NV-DOS. It is more of an ERP system that can now play with the big boys. But as you all know ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning – think SAGE or Great Plains) systems take time, training, and effort to make the best use of them.

We all appreciated NV-DOS because we could twist it and make it do what we personally needed it to do. Well, let me say that I am doing more with NV2 than I was ever able to do in NV-DOS. Custom anaylsis reports that resemble an excel spreadsheet tracking a Google AdWord campaign showing number of impressions, click thru rates, etc, etc and etc.

And it is only going to get better because that is the proven track record of QW Page – and NO I do not work for them.

    Remember, don’t complain, just…

    Hi,

In Payroll click on the employee in the Employee List window. Then in the window below click on the Deductions tab and choose Federal. On Line 5 (TD1: Additional Tax to be deducted (per pay-period) ) you can check to see if it was removed on conversion. If there is an amount here change it to zero to remove it.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi

Have you recently created a new journal and not set the tag?
Click on Journals +, Settings and ensure that the tag field is filled in. Normally it would be set to financial.

Duplicate Reference Numbers would be beneficial. Some of my customers have been asking for this, but it would need to be a user controlled switch so it could be turned on or off on specific journals and/or ledgers.

As to a preset expense account I have not come across the need for this. My customers have too many variations to ever make this practical.

These are just my thoughts. Thanks for the great post.

And THANKS to Martin for your great job in assisting us and to all the staff at QW for continuing to better an already great program.
