I have found that inside the books in print options if you type “LPT1” for a file name the printer works better.

Sounds like you did not run getlib

    From the payroll update site

    Installing Payroll

1a. If you downloaded the payroll update file directly to your NewViews directory:

Run NewViews (do not open your books). In the NewViews Shell, highlight the “DOS Command” option and press [Enter] TWICE.

1b. If you downloaded the payroll update file to a floppy disk:

On the computer with your NewViews program, insert the disk containing the downloaded payroll update file into drive A:.

Run NewViews (do not open your books). In the NewViews Shell, highlight the “DOS Command”option and press [Enter] TWICE.

    At the DO

S prompt that appears, type COPY A:*.exe and press [Enter].

If you are prompted with “Overwrite …?” type Y and press [Enter].

(This may happen if you have ever downloaded a payroll update in the past.)

    2. Type your serial number and press [Enter].

    Examples:

If your serial number is NV0087654, type 87654 and press [Enter]

If your serial number is NVR001234, type 1234 and press [Enter]

    press “A”.

    4. Type EXIT and press [Enter].

    5. In the NewViews Shell, select the “Books” option to open your books.

    6. From anywhere in the books, run the GETLIB procedure. In the procedure prompt, type:

NV1PRCD1 (if you are using Canadian Cash Payroll)

    or

NV1PRCD2 (if you are using Canadian Accrual & Cash Payroll)

    7. Press [F5].

    Hi Jim

I have a client that uses a new hp laser color printer. His printer does not seem to except ESC codes . They have to use an external program to set the fonts on the printer and use a printer setup in newviews that is blank.

Hp specs on your printer says that dos drivers are only available on the web. You may want to try this site.
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=uk&prodNameId=378050&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=378048&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=14

This may help you. I have no experience with you specific printer.

Thanks to the QW Page team for the help.

I had created a backup of the NV2 dir and copied it back to the windows 2000 disk. I tries to run NV2 but all I get is a beep from the computer and a screen that flashs but I cannot see what it said. It flashs too fast.

What do you call wonky ?
Have you tried to run check books ?

Our company books are from 1988 and we have no problem.

Ok Guy’s lets see if I can explain this right.

    Open a set of books
Go to the notes view of a template. The one that I used ~inv2.tpl
Give the command ~DL than enter 5
    Close books
Re-open books and go to the notes view of the template.
You should see a screen like this link.

    http://users.eastlink.ca/~dihedral/nvcap.jpg

Somehow she has given the command ~DL with a number at some point while she was in the notes view.

Solution is to give command ~DL and 0 to reset when you see this screen. New Views remembers a document lock command and has to be reset.

The command /wr is “right a field”.
This may sound crazy but when this happens try /DL and then enter “0”

Even if the notes view does not have fields to lock, it seems to have an effect of locking some of the screen Horizontally.

I see that you are with eastlink. What part on Nova Scotia are you from?

I had a “symbol” scanner that connects between the keyboard and computer working with NPL program. The scanner had to be programed to send a return at the end of the string. Customer decided that it would be too expensive.
If I remember correctly there are 10 significant numbers in the bar code. It has been so long I cannot remember all thi info.

    Hi Cameron

The code should be in the deduction account (D=TAX ; E=Y)

I have just checked it and it works.

Make certain that you have the birthday correct. I have been caught by the date.

    Thomas

    Edit Nov 06/2004

    Cameron

I just checked and E=Y is ok in earning account.
The problem that I had was only CPP Caused by date.

I should have said when using the newviews shell “make books”.
This was reported to me by a client.
I have tried it on 2 computers with the same result.
At the make books date prompt
    Feb 28 2004 gives a nvreorg (6) error
Feb 29 2004 it just stays at the prompt.
It seems that ” MAKE BOOKS” from the shell does not see leap years
but nvreorg which actually makes the books does and reports the error.

NVbooks will create the books ok and than you can put in any valid date.
As I said it seems to be only the “MAKE BOOKS” from the shell that has the problem.

If you want to use nvc.exe you can turn off edit safety by inserting
“/nosafety” at the end of the command line.
I have to use the command line instead of the shell because I have found that some customers are “Key Happy” They do not watch what they are doing and in the shell when the book selection box is open they hit the “/” key .You never know where they end up.

I create a PIF file for each set of books that they use.
