Are you certain it is not NTVDM error ?

I am running NV1 on xp pro and many of my customer are also and we all run full screen.

One of the problems is the command.com in the system32 dir could be the wrong version.
Another is the autoexec.nt and config.nt are missing or a line is wrong in these files.
They are also in the system32 dir.

Here are the contents of my 2 files.

Contents of autoexec.nt everything else is REM out

    lh %SystemRoot%system32mscdexnt.exe

REM Install network redirector (load before dosx.exe)
    lh %SystemRoot%system32redir

    REM Install DPMI support
    lh %SystemRoot%system32dosx

Contents of config.nt everything else is REM out

    dos=high, umb
    device=%SystemRoot%system32himem.sys
    files=40

Here is another solution for you if you have a spare PCMCIA slot

    http://www.quatech.com/catalog/parallel_pcmcia.php

I find it a bit expensive at $120.00 but there may be different ones available from other suppliers

    Hi Glenn

If you computer has a network card or is on a network you could try this adapter

    http://trendnet.com/langen/products/proddetail.asp?prod=120_TE100-P1P&cat=46

    It is network to parallel.
If you are not on a network you could use a crossover cable but you would have to set IP addresses manually.

Also many internet routers/hubs do have this feature built-in.

    Good luck

Also for everyone that has had problems setting up their usb printers with the lpt share solution, I have found that on my Win XP system it will not except the “net use lpt1” command if the computer is not connected to a network.

Something as simple as having it connected to a cable modem will make it work.

This is the way I have been doing it.

Make a copy of the hp printer code to a new printer definition

Remove the code in the setup field

    Print to a file

    Open the file with word

Select MS- DOS at the file conversion prompt

Remove left, right ,top and bottom margins

    or

    select all

change the font to “courier new” and change the character size so the lines will not wrap

This has worked for me with office 2003

    Good luck

    Hi Martin

I think we are talking about 2 different things.

We have 2 sub sales journals to charge tax in other provinces GST/PST or HST. I made a mistake and changed the parent journal and not the sub journals . Before I realized the mistake, we invoiced over 100 invoices. I do not want to have to edit every line from all those invoices if I do not have to. The only way I have found to do it is to, edit the quantity record it and the re-enter the qty and do this for every line on the invoice, or go to the tax column and enter item total * tax, and do this for every invoice.

Is there an easier way to recalculate taxs in existing invoices. In NV1 you just had to block invoices on the sales journal and run “TAXS”.

In the nv20.dat directory there is a manual.chm file or from the books go to help on the toolbar, the manual is there. I think the manual file was in every service pack.

    Hi Martin

The process I was thinking is

    nv1 to nv2.08.16
    nv2.08.16 to nv2.09.06

From the test I have done it seems that the problem is not with nv2 but the nv1 to nv2 script in nv2.09

The database seems to convert to 2.09.06 with no problem from nv2.08.16

I am in the process of converting a 340 meg set of books tonight.
I will see what the results are in the morning.

    Looking forward to the update.

The use of a USB drive does work better , from 1 hour per batch with internal drive to 23 min with USB.

A ram drive will also work for conversion, 15 min per batch.
Set backup switch to backup to harddrive just in case of crash.

Do you see any problems in using 2.08 to import and then upgrade to 2.09 ?

I tied this but it seems to causes 2 series of invoice numbers when using the next number function.

    Any other ideas.

The way NV1 treated this seems to have been the best solution, have default values and be able to overide on customers setup.

Go to the NewViews website. There is a complete description of 2.09 update to be released this month. I hope that there will not be any delay.

An account can only hold about 64000 entries.

It might help if we knew the windows version you are using.
A few things that you could try.

At the command prompt type “net view” without the quotes

This will give you a response of all computers on the network.

Is your computer listed (PRESARIO) ?
If it is type “net view \PRESARIO” without the quotes

You should see the shares on your computer

Is the printer listed (NEWVIEW1) ?

If it is listed this is the command
“net use lpt1 \PRESARIONEWVIEW1 /persistent:yes” without the quotes

Depending on your operating system the “yes” after persistent should be a “Y” instead. You can also change “lpt1” to lpt2,lpt3,lpt4 or any other number that is not in use.

If the net view commands does not respond with “PRESARIO” and “NEWVIEW1” the sharing is not setup properly.

This will only print if the printer does have an internal font. I have 2 printers that will not print like this.
